FRANCISCO TAMAGNO (1851 - 1933) [COSTUME BALL.] Circa 1900.
50 x 38 1/2 inches. Camis, Paris.
Condition A-: restoration and punch hole in right margin. Framed.
Very little biographical information about Tamagno can be found. It is well documented that he was one of the artists under contract with the major Parisian printer Camis. His forte was product advertising, and he was prolific in the field of bicycles and liqueurs. This image is advertising one of the many balls that dotted the social landscape of fin-de-siecle Paris. As it is before text we cannot know for sure exactly which event it is advertising. But the image, of a beautiful woman in costume playing with streamers and confetti, against a lavish, exotic backdrop of minarets and a full moon is irrepressibly joyful. make the estiamte 2000-3000? was originally 12-1800
